Harmonized with Triads

This time on Jonny Tomcarrs Guitar Lesson page, I would like to share about a harmonized scale of tones; a scale of tones where you are building diatonic harmonies on each of the scale note. Diatonic harmonies mean that they are built with tones from the scale. It is a good tool for analyzing chords and chord-functions for a given scale. When we are harmonizing in triads, it means that we are building triads (three-tone chords) on each tone. We have the basic voicing 1-3-5 for all chords. Play them slowly and listen to the sound of each chord.
Advice:
  • Try to play crossing over to the higher set of string as soon as it is possible.
  • Try to play the whole scale vertically (include lower set of strings). You do not have to choose the same cross-over points as simpler have done. But try to creative and imagine about what you need to play triads in root position on all over the neck of the guitar.
Through triads you could forming chords. There are three kind of fundamental chords: Major, minor and diminished. To play all the chords used for the harmonized scales with triads in root position, you should need 9 chord shapes(from 3x3) to play in all 12 keys. Why? Well, I'll share to you again later. See you soon!
